Two members of the MeJARa team attended the 30th International Population Conference to present their work. The International Population Conference is organised by the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP) every four years. The IUSSP is an international organisation dedicated to the study of human populations, with a mission to promote scientific population research, encourage exchange among researchers worldwide, and stimulate interest in population issues.

The 30th International Population Conference was held from 13 to 18 July in Brisbane, Australia. The conference was attended by over 1300 participants from around the world.  The conference featured 24 major themes and over 500 sessions, including plenaries, poster presentations, oral presentations, and flash presentations, fostering a rich exchange of ideas.

Members of the MeJARa team presented their work in the session ‘Menstrual Health Management: Current Challenges’. Notably, this was the first time a session on menstruation was convened at the conference, indicating that menstrual health is beginning to gain recognition and importance within the field of population studies. Dr Melanie Channon, Principal Investigator of the MeJARa project, presented on ‘Barriers to Accessing Menstrual Health Care for Adolescent Girls in Nepal’, while PhD researcher Minakshi Dahal presented on ‘The Psychosocial and Mental Burden of Menstruation on Adolescent Girls in Nepal’. The presentations were well-received by the audience, and we received insightful comments and feedback. We plan to incorporate these comments to refine our papers accordingly.

We also had the opportunity to interact with researchers from around the world and share insights about our study. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at the conference and in Brisbane.
