A panel discussion focused on menstrual justice was recently held in Bath to mark the 50th Anniversary of the University of Bath’s Centre for Development Studies. MeJARa team members Minakshi Dahal, PhD Researcher, and Fran Amery, Senior Lecturer in Politics, were speakers at the event which addressed important questions such as: How have civil society organisations stepped up to tackle period poverty in their communities? What gets left out when we focus on period products? And what else do we need to do to deliver menstrual justice worldwide?

The event was well attended and generated thoughtful discussion about how menstrual stigma and shame can be tackled in both local and global contexts to improve the menstrual experiences of those who menstruate. The panel also featured Danny Cox who runs Period Friendly Places, a Bristol based charity aiming to create towns and cities where nobody experiences period poverty and there is dignity for all. It was chaired by Aurelie Charles, Senior Lecturer in Global Sustainability from the Centre for Development Studies at the University of Bath.
